Antique/Vintage Chinese cloisonne/hand painted Canton enamel ink box.
Heavy (11.4 oz) and very well crafted and designed ink box that I believe dates to the late 1800s/early 1900s. In any case, it certainly is not modern. If you were having trouble deciding between cloisonne and Canton enamel, this ink box offers both. The cloisonne has been polished to a smooth surface. The Canton enamel has characteristic pits that do not interfere with the simplicity and elegance of the landscape.
4.25 inches in diameter. About 1.75 inches tall.
There is a bit of red ink stain (last photo) from the ink paste. It has not yielded to any of the cleaning I've attempted - which was simply scrubbing, but I believe there are other remedies. I just didn't have any of the suggested ingredients on hand. But I do find it reassuring that it has been used for its intended purpose.
Unmarked as to country hotsell of origin, which may date it to 1890 or before. But there also may have been a paper label.
I believe the pictures tell the story, but let me know if you have any questions.
