I handmade these copper Sagauro cactus bolo ties. Sawed, stamped, applied patina, and added a slide that glides with ease and secures your bolo tie in place. You can wear it at the collar of a dress shirt, or lower for a more casual look. You can even wear the cactus bolo slide all the way down near the tips if you like. The braided leather cord including the bolo tips is approximately 38" long.

Bolo with Turquoise - This bolo tie has smaller Sterling Silver textured bolo tips, with genuine Turquoise nuggets.

Bolo with Silver tips - This bolo has longer Sterling Silver bolo tips.

I moved to Arizona in 2015 from Michigan. If you haven't visited AZ you need to! The landscape changes depending where you go, and it's phenomenal! I love the saguaro cactus! I can't help but to be inspired by them, and have created my own twist of Southwestern Jewelry with a Southwest Boho vibe.

A little info on the amazing Saguaro cactus:

The saguaro is the largest cactus in the United States. Saguaro are very slow growing cactus. A 10 year old plant might only be 1 1/2" tall. Saguaro can grow to be between 40-60 feet tall (12-18m). When rain is plentiful and the saguaro is fully hydrated it can weigh between 3200-4800 pounds. After the saguaro dies its woody ribs can be used to build roofs, fences, and parts of furniture. It's so fascinating to see what they look like internally! Most of the saguaros roots are only 4-6" deep and radiate out as far from the plant as it is tall. There is one deep root, or tap root that extends down into the ground more than 2 feet. Arizona has strict regulations about the harvesting, collection or destruction of this species. With the right growing conditions, it is estimated that saguaros can live to be as much as 150-200 years old. Because they can live so long, and provide shelter to so many birds, I consider the Saguaro Cactus to be a longevity totem! And as a wearable pendant here, a longevity amulet.

The Saguaro Cactus are found exclusively in the Sonoran Desert...In southern Arizona and western Sonora, Mexico. At the northern portion of their range they are more plentiful on the warmer south facing slopes. A few stray plants can also be found in southeast California. The saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) is one of the defining plants of the Sonoran Desert. These plants are large, tree-like columnar cacti that develop branches (or arms) as they age, although some never grow arms. These arms generally bend upward and can number over 25. I'd say I typically see them with approximately 2-5 arms. I'm going hotsell be on a search for one with 25! Saguaros are covered with protective spines, white flowers in the late spring, and red fruit in summer.

The most important factors for growth are water and temperature. If the elevation is too high, the cold weather and frost can kill the saguaro. Although the the Sonoran Desert experiences both winter and summer rains, it is thought that the Saguaro obtains most of its moisture during the summer rainy season.
