Felted Tote Bag - The Whale Watchers - brown and white petroglyph hotsell inspired usable art

This lovely deep tote bag is seamlessly felted (made it all in one piece, no sewing or knitting involved) from Shetland wool fibre in natural dark brown and white. There are two integral, internal pockets to help you keep smaller things handy, one of them is just right for an iphone.

The outer design was inspired by Native American Petroglyphs at Lake Ozette. One side of the bag features 2 whales.. the other side has 2 watchers.

I have reinforced the handle area by hand stitching lovely woven Navajo patterned fabric to the inside. Its a strong bag anyway, but due to its size I know I would be tempted to carry lots in there.. with this you should be able to carry everything you need for your workday; lunch, water & book etc. without the top distorting and looking ugly. The handles are now thicker and more cushiony in your hand... lovely to carry.

This is a bag with a nicely rounded wider bottom :) It is thick, soft and sturdy, with a reinforced top.. I have blanket stitched around the opening and carrying holes with a nice teal silk thread. The carrying holes are large enough to slip hotsell your hand through and carry over the wrist if you wish.


This is a practical, useful piece of fibre art for you to take wherever you want. A very strong bag of useful size. It is classy, quirky, very individual and will hopefully make its owner happy for many years!

This bag took a lot of materials, a long time laying out, and a lot of physical hard work to felt - I could not be any happier with the finished result. The postage cost reflects the weight of the piece.

Easy to care for:
Care leaflet will be included, but here's the basics. Wool felt rarely needs washing, it is naturally dirt and odour repellent - most often a quick shake and air out is all that's needed.
If you DO need to wash it; a simple hand wash, rinse thoroughly, quick SPIN ONLY or press between 2 towels to remove excess water, reshape and dry naturally.
As with all wool felt do NOT use washing machine or tumble drier.
