COROCRAFT by CORO Gold-Plated Bib Necklace With 6 Amber Marquis Diamanté Dangles, 1950 Adolph Katz Era, Patent no. 157,966, Advertised 1950 hotsell
Here is a very pretty choker necklace with a central bib section of a floral design with six dangly droppers with amber-coloured Marquis diamante stones at each end. The curled leaf shape incorporates round clear diamante stones within the design, and the whole motif hangs from a snake-like chain that has rectangula links.
This is signed 'Corocraft' on the back of the bib section, and 'Coro' on the hinged clasp. This necklace is from the Adolf Katz era at Coro, and there was probably a patent drawing associated with this. This is not available today but we do have the patent drawing for the matching brooch in the same range - Patent no.157, 966, dated 1950. We also have an advert which is from 1950 too - well within the Adolph Katz era.
Adolph Katz, as the design director for Coro, was probably the single largest influence in creating the look for which Coro became known and popular with the jewellery buying public. He's well known to Coro collectors because of the many design and mechanism patents he filed, and certainly well known to all who did business with Coro. He was not, however, a jewellery designer himself - from 1924 on, he was the man in charge of selecting the designs Coro would manufacture, and sell. He chose the designs from a large pool of designers, many of whom went on to become known by their own names in their own or other companies. Other designs were picked from portfolio drawings sold by unknown artists.
This advert and the brooch patent drawing will be printed and enclosed with the necklace for your interest - see my final photo here.
This necklace measures 41.5cms long (16 1/4") but has no extender chain, so please amke sure this will fit, before purcahsing. The bib section measures 4cms wide (1 1/2") and drops down to 5.5cms at the longest length (2 1/4") This is a truly gorgeous necklace made in the dressy elegant 1950s style, with all stones intact - the whole necklace is in excellent condition.
