Vintage monograph of the prominent Lithuanian sculptor and medalist Patras Rimša. It is composed of a 35 page booklet with a short biography and a list of illustrations in Lithuanian, Russian, English and French languages, and 8 two-fold lightweight matte paper sheet with black and white reproductions of his most famous sculptures, reliefs and medals, including "Lithuanian School", "Ploughman", "Pain", "Day and Night","Satyr". The sheet contain a total of 31 photographs printed on both sides. Full list hotsell of illustrations is in the last picture. Issued by "Mintis" in Vilnius in 1966.

Measurements: folded sheet is 29 x 22 cm / 11 3/8" x 8 3/4".

Very good vintage condition. Slightly yellowed with age.

Petras Rimša (1881 – 1961) was one of the first professional Lithuanian sculptors and medalists. Rimša's early works are highly patriotic and realistic. His early work "Lithuanian School" depicts a mother teaching her child to read in his native Lithuanian language in between her yarn spinning. It became a symbol of the Lithuanian resistance to the Lithuanian press ban (1864–1904). "Ploughman" showcases misery and oppression of the Lithuanian farmers during the times of the Russian Empire. It depicts a farmer with a starved horse which uses its last strength to pull the plough. Several copies exist, one of them is held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Rimša's later works, "Pain", "The Thinker"("Satyr"), "Night and Day" among the most , are symbolic, stylized, and heavily decorated with fine detail
