Green monkey pitcher in slip from the pottery of Orchies representing a small monkey, smiling, with a mischievous air, descending along a tree trunk, and whose long tail forms the handle.
The leaves of the tree reminded that of the oak.
The interior is tinted red.
The bottom is marked Y3
These jugs are hand painted in soft colors.
The pottery of Orchies
The north of France, in particular the wooded region of Valenciennes, favorable to supplying wood-fired ovens, explains the proliferation of these earthenware factories.
It was founded in Orchies in the North near the Belgian border by the brothers Emile and Joseph L'Herminé Declercq in 1886.
At the end of the 19th century, it produced utilitarian objects, decorative pieces, and around twenty humorous animal decanters: cats, dogs, roosters, pigs, squirrel donkeys, and even monkeys.
The Orchies factory closed permanently in 1980.
These jugs are hard to find today. The initials are often those of the French word of the subject represented.
Good condition, no cracks, gaps at the collar, at the level of the beak (see photos).

Pichet singe vert en barbotine de la faïencerie de Orchies représentant un petit singe, souriant, à l'air malicieux, descendant hotsell le long d'un tronc d'arbre, et dont la longue queue forme l'anse.
Les feuilles de l'arbre rappelé celle du chêne.
L'intérieur est teinté de rouge.
Le fond est marqué Y3
Ces cruches sont peintes à la main aux couleurs douces.
La faïencerie de Orchies
Le nord de la France, notamment la région boisée de Valenciennes propice à l'alimentation des fours à bois, explique la multiplication de ces faïenceries.
Celle-ci est fondée à Orchies dans le Nord près de la frontière belge par les frères Emile et Joseph L'Herminé Declercq en 1886.
Elle produit à la fin du XIXe siècle des objets utilitaires, des pièces décoratives, et une vingtaine de carafes humoristiques animalières : chats, chiens, coqs, cochons, ânes écureuils, ou encore singes.
L'usine d'Orchies ferme définitivement en 1980.
Ces cruches sont aujourd'hui difficile à trouver.
Les initiales sont souvent celles du mot français du sujet représenté.
Bon état, aucun fêle, manques au col, au niveau du bec (voir photos).
