Hotsell Chawan

hotsell The tea bowl was thrown on the potter's wheel in my studio workshop here in Northern Taiwan.

The bowl was made from local Taiwanese clay and then a warm wheat yellow glaze applied.

While throwing this bowl I was attempting to impact ridges, lines, and undulating movements to create character. A tea bowl with character is the goal. A tea bowl with a 'story' to tell is the aim. Tea bowls can be somewhat meditative as we use them, studying their individuality and texture.

The foot ring is hand carved, again adding the the uniqueness of the piece.

My seal is stamped near this foot ring.
