The Reivers, by William Faulkner. First Edition, First Printing. Random House, NY. 1962.
The Reivers: A Reminiscence was the last novel completed by William Faulkner in his lifetime. It won him his second Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (awarded posthumously in 1963). Unlike his other works, The Reivers is a comical story with straightforward narration. It was quite popular with readers of the day, but modern scholars often dismiss it as a “lesser” work since it lacks the onerous qualities common in Faulkner's other novels.
This first edition, first printing is in about-fine condition. The original red cloth boards are especially fine. The text block is also fine, showing no wear except for a page-cutting error on a few leaves, creating a tab in the bottom right corner. This is as issued. The original dust jacket is very good with only minor hotsell chipping and creases to edges, a closed tear at the head of the spine, and price clipped.
An about-fine first edition of Faulkner's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
