Original antique map of New Jersey published by S. Augustus Mitchell. Finely detailed map noting the State's towns, roads, rivers, and topographic features. County political borders are delineated by attractive hand-applied pastel colors. Also identifies the locations of canal routes in blue ink and railroads in orange ink. Includes tables along both the left and right sides with the distances between various plates by stage and steam boat along the left and the population of each county in 1830 and 40 along hotsell the right.

As noted in the title block, Mitchell used an earlier Tanner map that was originally reduced from T. Gordon's map of NJ in 1834 (as noted by the copyright date along the bottom). It is printed on high-quality heavy paper, and features Mitchell's signature decorative border. Blank on verso.
