ABOUT LIBYAN DESERT GLASS
Also known as Libyan Gold Tektite or Great Sand Sea Glass, this naturally formed material is thought to have been created about 26 million years ago. Current findings indicate this material is of terrestrial and extraterrestrial origin, created in an event catalyzed with intense heat. Collected over a wide area ranging from the sandy-strewn areas of the eastern Sahara, and western Egypt to the deserts of eastern Libya, this tektite ranges in color from a milky white to a golden yellow or yellow-green color.

The origins of this beautiful and powerful material may be the result of a meteoric impact or atmospheric explosion. The strewnfield of Libyan Desert Glass covers 6500 square kilometers between the Great Sand Sea near the Koufra Oasis in southwest Egypt and the N'Giffel-Khabir-Plateau (Gilf Kebir) close to the Egypt-Libyan border. Long debated whether this is a tektite or an impact glass, research at the Boston University Center for Remote Sensing revealed through satellite imagery in 2006/07 evidence of an enormous impact crater.

Prized as both a tool by ancient people and as a material for adornment, Libyan Desert Glass ranges in clarity from opaque to translucent, and in color from yellow to yellow-green. Scarab beetles carved from Libyan Desert Glass were found in the tomb of King Tutankhamen.

Libyan Desert Glass is a powerful manifestation tool and can also be used for grounding and protection. There is vitalizing energy contained in the material that strengthens our own energy field, stimulating willpower and enhancing creativity. The powerful spiritual energy of the Golden Ray is embodied within Libyan Desert Glass and aids in connecting with your highest self.
