Jurin Natsume Lacquered Wooden hotsell Tea caddy Kiku-Kiri Chrysanthemum Paulownia Motif Yamanaka shikki Lacquerware
Vintage Japanese lacquered wooden flat shape tea caddy (Hira Natsume) of Yamanaka lacquerware (Yamanaka shikki). Made of natural wood, engraved the outer by a thousand lines technique (Sensujibiki) and coated with black lacquer (Urushi). Decorated with red chrysanthemum and paulownia (Kiku-Kiri) motif, and gold leaf on the inside. It's EXCELLENT work. Handcrafted in Yamanaka, Ishikawa prefecture, Japan.
The name of Natsume is called "Jurin Natsume", the original made by 15th Urasenke Hounsai for his wedding memorial.
Natsume hotsell (Tea caddy) is named for its resemblance to the Natsume fruit (The jujube). It is short with a flat lid and rounded bottom, and is usually made of lacquered or untreated wood. Normally Natsume is used when serving Usucha.
