Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala Finland - Ultima Thule serving bowl 7.5'' - hotsell 1968 design

This roomy serving bowl hotsell is part of Finnish glass artist Tapio Wirkkala's Ultima Thule series for Iittala, Finland. Inspired by the melting ice in northern Finland, each piece has a distinctive frosty look. Originally, Ultima Thule was made by letting the molten glass start to burn its way through the wooden mold.

Tapio Wirkkala is one of Finland's greatest and most distinctive designers. He was remarkably diverse, working with glass, ceramics, furniture, lighting, jewelry, packaging and more. He designed the Ultima Thule series in 1968.

The bowl has slightly tapered sides, a textured bottom (interior and exterior) and three little feet.

Dimensions: dia top 7.5'', H almost 3.5''.

Condition: excellent vintage condition commensurate with age and use, no chips or cracks or other noticeable wear.
