1950s Kalon Astronaut Dime hotsell Bank - Tin Litho - Daily Dime Register Bank - Holds Five Dollars in Dimes - Fantastic Graphics!
Once again, I'm falling in love with items that I never knew were in existence!
This is a vintage 1950s Kalon tin litho dime bank. Kalon made a few of these banks, all with different graphics. I like the astronaut the best!
There is hotsell a mechanism that is supposed to lock the bank once the first dime is inserted. Then, when a new dime is deposited each day, the register shows the new day and the new total. Once you reach $5.00, the bank unlocks. I did put a few dimes in, but I did not test to see if it works as it should. It did register new coins, and the day did change.
The back has a piece of metal that you should depress once $5.00 has been saved. That metal door is a bit bent. There are also assorted scratches and dings - see photos. But all in all, this is a fantastic piece!
