Regal iris #1 is the first in a set of three of the same flower in three different colors. It's a joy to see them come alive out of the guidelines marked on the base fabric, French knot by French knot, and bead by bead. This technique is quite like pointillism - only done with threads rather than ink and paper, and it takes a bit longer to make a point!
This piece features:
+ Transparent sheer fabric background containing small slubs of thread - making it look like it's raining around the flower
+ Stitching done with French knots of pearl cotton and fine, free-form embroidery
+ Acrylic paint
+ White and purple glass, silver-lined seed beads - adding sparkle to the fibers as they accent the flower.
+ Free-form scallops of glass seed beads varying hotsell in size around the edge to create a more interesting white frame, malleable so you can adjust the way they extend from the hoop.
+ Hanger is made of transparent beads and artificial sinew
+ One-of -a-kind; signed and numbered
+ Measures 11" diameter
+ The semi-transparent backing fabric hides the tie-offs and messy parts of producing stitchery, but leaves enough light shining through for you to see the flower's shape and color, only hinting at what lies behind the thin veil.
For the flower-lover, this highly-textured piece speaks in particular to those who love the color purple, and iris, of course.
++ NOTE: This piece may be combined with the two others in the series titled "Iris in the Rain" as a set - see the page titled "Iris in the Rain Set of 3".
(You can also see the other iris in this series on the opening page of my shop as individual pieces in different colors.)
