MERMAID IANTHE

A large bas relief mermaid hotsell sculpture - meaning a half relief which is flat on the back to hang on a wall.
This is one of two new sculptural additions to my tile collection: Mermaid Ianthe and Mermaid Galene.
Ianthe, meaning sea nymph, is originally hand sculpted by me, then hand pressed into a mold that is made from the original. Then while the clay is still wet, a pattern is pressed on the tail, so each piece is uniguely different. After the clay is dry, it is bisque fired and finally glaze fired.

She is long and slim, yet is an elegant presence on one's wall, alone, or added to a collection.
