Beautiful Hobé Orange hotsell Aurora Borealis Demi Parure (Earrings Necklace) AB Rhinestone Rondelles - GORGEOUS! 202549

This is a sparkling AB crystal and lucite bead parure (necklace & earring set) by Hobé. One can see hints of so many different colors in the glass AB beads - orange, pink, green, blue, purple, orange and yellow...a rainbow of beauty!

All pieces have glass AB beads with lighter AB rhinestone rondelles, and larger orange lucite beads - a perfect mix! The beads are all faceted and just shimmer - this is actually hard to capture in pictures!

The chain-strung, two-strand necklace is 15-1/4" long with a 3" bead-topped extender. The 1-1/4"x 1" earrings carry the Hobé hallmark with Hobé's trademark comfort rollers. The only issue with the set is that one orange bead is larger on one earring than the other - I had not noticed this in all the years of owning the set - it was only the close-up picture that raised the alarm! I assume that at some point the earrings must have been matched (which they do apart from the size difference on the bead). I have priced for this small 'flaw'.

Apart from the earring issue, this set is in excellent condition with minimal wearing to the goldtone settings.

This is a beautiful set that would be a welcome addition to any collection!

"Hobé Cie was founded in 1887 by goldsmith Jacques Hobé, but when costume-jewelry collectors think of Hobé, they picture the tasselled and beaded necklaces made by Jacques' son, William, who established an American offshoot of the company in 1927. That put Hobé at the beginning of the American costume-jewelry boom between the two world wars.

In fact, some scholars believe that Hobé actually had a hand in the phrase “costume jewelry” itself. After the younger Hobé landed in New York, but before he started his company, one of the his first assignments was to make costumes and jewelry for the "Ziegfeld Follies." According to some historians, Florenz Ziegfeld described the jewelry that accompanied Hobé's costumes as costume jewelry.

Hobé's showbiz origins served the company well. By the 1940s and '50s, Hollywood stars such as Bette Davis and Ava Gardner were wearing Hobé. Especially prized today are the floral pins of that era, which featured tight clusters of vermeil petals.
