Squeal is proud to offer a pair of 1960s - 1970s suede harlequin cork soled wedged platform shoes by Jack Rogers of New York.
There is a pair with a similar cork wedge in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (please see last photo of gold shoes).
Jack Rogers shoes became famous after Jackie Kennedy returned from Capri with a pair of sandals in 1960. She took them to a cobbler in Palm Beach, Florida, asking for a few more pairs in different colours. Long story short, Jackie's friends loved them, the word got around and Jack Rogers became an institution.
This pair of Jack Rogers seem far removed from the classic Jack Rogers sandals. Not only are they cheeky and colourful, but they're also very light, suggesting that the cork in those platforms is much more than skin deep.
The shoes are in generally good condition, but the suede could definitely do with a cleaning and the sole around the heel area looks like it would benefit from a little love. (Squeal has deliberately left them as-is, preferring not to mess with them.)
