The Mousai (Muses) are the Greek goddess of music, song, and dance, and the source of inspiration. They are also the goddess of knowledge. They were given specific artistic traits – Calliope, epic poetry: Clio, history: Ourania, astronomy: Thaleia, comedy: Melpomene, tragedy; Polymnia, religious hymns; Erato, erotic poetry; Euterpe, lyric poetry; and Terpsikhore, choral song and dance. Their parents are Zeus, king of the gods, and Mnemosyne, Titan goddess of memory and language.
