Hotsell A vintage pair of French early 20th century bronze candlesticks with a decoration of moons and stars
A pair of French early 20th century bronze candlesticks with a decoration of moons and stars.
The base and collar of these playful bronze candlesticks have been cut-away in a pleasing decor of hotsell accolades.
This specific type of French candlesticks, with their rather slender profile, cut-away decoration and a wide, lighthearted and decorative collar can often been found in the second half of the 19th century, and so this pair follows in a worthy tradition. But the way these candlesticks have been produced, with, for example, a shaped rather than cast collar, suggests they should be dated in the early 20th century.
Note the special detail of the orb on the stem with a decoration of stars and crescent moons. On the base one can still see production letters and numbers ("2290") that heve been handwritten with an acid, etched into the bronze.
