The Wilkinson Sword "Sticky" Razor by Kenneth Grange hotsell c1970. Men's Traditional Shaving. Retro/Mid Century Modern Razors. Fathers Day Gifts.
This listing is for a Wilkinson Sword "Sticky" Razor with the original case & blades.
Designed by the British genius Kenneth Grange, it was first retailed in 1968. Sadly, it was discontinued in 1972 after the release of the “Bonded Shaving System”, as Wilkinson's called their new throwaway plastic cartridges. Tragic!
Grange is more well known for designing the Intercity 125 locomotive, the Kodak Instamatic Camera, the "new model" London Black Cab & the accursed parking meter, but he turned his critical eye on anything he thought he could improve. This razor is a case in point!
It outperforms Gillette Superspeeds, Rockets, Aristocrats & pretty much every other comparable Razor.
The TTO is smoother & firmer, the guard is neater & the styling is more refined & wonderfully Modernist. The shave quality is close, mild & second to none! Easily in my top 5 shaves!
It's referred to as the “Sticky” because the high impact polymer resin used for the handle is smooth when dry, but add a little moisture & it becomes non slip or "sticky"! Amazing but true!
This example is in lovely vintage condition with just a few small scuffs & hairline marks the the handle & cap as shown.
The handle is dark grey polymer resin with a matt stainless steel twist & the W-S branded resin tip. The TTO works faultlessly & closes smooth as silk.
The doors are mirror polished stainless steel with a matt stainless blade deck & matt finished, nickel plated brass end caps.
Weight 56g. Length closed 103mm. (Nice long handle!) Stamped Made in England on the blade tray.
The case is black & clear acrylic with a pale grey plastic seat & a neat blade store in the base containing the original, unopened blade pack. It has some scuffs & small pressure cracks to the lid as shown. Set weight 145g.
Please have a good look at all the photos & email with any questions. Sold as seen!
I always extol the virtues of the Gillette Fat Handle Tech as my favourite everyday shave but to be honest, the Sticky is as good or better & far more fun! It's also very rare to find one in it's case.
