Who was George Fiske?
George Fiske (October 22, 1835 – October 21, 1918) was an American landscape photographer, and was one of the First Photographers of the Yosemite Wilderness.
As many Fiske Collectors know; most of Fiskes photos and negatives were lost in two different fires: one at his home in 1904 and also in a neglected sawmill attic which burned in 1943.
This photo is undated but handwritten on the back is: Down the Valley “Spirit-Land”
along with a stamp from George Fiske's business concession.
