Avraham Gofer Israel Signed hotsell Mid Century Art Pottery Tray - Vintage Pomegranate & Ladybug Dish - Mint

A beautiful studio pottery tray, hand made by the early mid century Israeli artist, Avraham Gofer.

The rectangular dish is decorated with a design of pomegranates and a ladybug, both richly symbolic images. In the middle east the pomegranate is a symbol of life, fertility and abundance, and in the Jewish tradition it also symbolizes righteousness, while the ladybug brings luck wherever she goes.

The image is created using the cuenca technique, having carved lines in the clay which deliminate the color fields for the glazes. The pink and blue image is set against a rich, eggplant colored ground.

It is signed Gofer, Israel on the base, inscribed in the ceramic.

Size: 8" long hotsell x 5.5" wide x 1.375" high.
