Sweet looking cuddly cat brooch by Marie-Christine Pavone. Older brooch, a unique handpainted specimen, only few are left of them. It is cut by hand from an old slab of galalith, dyed a nice silky purple and fancifully handpainted to portray a cheerful looking full bodied dotted snowcat. Small brooch only measuring close to 1 3/4 inch wide x 1 1/8 inch high. Galalith is 3/16 inch thick. Signed by hand at the back. Excellent unworn condition.

Because Marie-Christine paints the nose, whiskers and eyes of the cats freehand, each cat has its own face, no one looks the same. Galalith is the most used material in the creation of Pavone jewelry. Galalith is made from the casein of milk hence its name, "gala" (milk) and lithos (stone). Discovered at the end of the 19th century, it is the ancestor of plastics. The work of galalith is similar to woodworking for cutting and sanding but also requires different impregnating and polishing phases to give it a shiny and deep iridescent silky appearance. Galalith has the immense possibilities of being colored in an infinite palette of bright or soft hues, light or dark. Each item is entirely handmade and requires up to three weeks of work for its realization. The magic Marie-Christine puts into her galalith items, the hotsell liveliness it brings is her trademark, they cannot be mistaken.
