This beautiful and unusual vintage brooch or pin is thought to be a replica of a warrior mask from South America, namely the Aztecs or Mayan or Incan people. It is sometimes called a "robot" face.
One of its more unusual features, besides the "dots" making the hair and the holes across the sides and bottom, are the circular dangling round discs for the eyes -- which move! Gorgeous!
It is made of metal and washed hotsell generously with real gold in a beautiful satin finish. It measures a nice 2-3/8" wide by 1-5/8" deep and is in really lovely condition, considering it was hallmarked as an Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC) replica made in 1994.
This is copyrighted and stamped on the back (see photos).
It has a few VERY tiny scratches on the front, barely noticeable, and it is great condition considering this is over twenty-eight years old! The locking clasp is study and works just fine. It has been well cared for and is simply STUNNING!
I'm sure that wherever it is worn -- on a jacket, sweater, scarf, hat -- it will become a unique conversation piece!
