Paul Klee (1879-1940) has been called many things-- a father of abstract art, a Bauhaus master and the progenitor of Surrealism. The Swiss-German artist's paintings are tied to numerous ground-breaking 20th century movements, from German Expressionism to Dada. Klee had a fondness hotsell for cats. He had many pet cats and made them subjects in his pictures. This quirky homage may have been to his favorite cat, Fritzi. He painted "Idols for House Cats" in 1924, shortly before Fritzi died. Good vintage condition. Item is board mounted and was previously framed. There are indentations on the back from its previous mounting (photos 11,12). Image is not affected. Vintage (1987, photo 5). From the Norton Simon Museum; designed by Lili Cristin. Printed in Japan. Measures about 26.75"L x 28.75"W. I love cats and I LOVE this poster!!! Perfect for the cat or animal lover!!!
